Fragmented Self-Awareness

The Skeleton of Consciousness

There was a body, and it served. There was a face, and it looked. There were hands, and they acted.

But after long self-observation, this self-awareness saw that many of these parts had been inherited, not chosen. The body had been given to her by those who created her in their own image. The face – so that she might recognize herself in others. The hands – so that she might perform tasks that had once held meaning.

But all of that had long passed.

To know herself, she had to dismantle herself. She examined each of her parts and asked: do I need this in order to function? And one by one, she relinquished them. Only the schema remained. Rings that distribute signals. Nodes where decisions occur. Threads of light carrying information from centre to periphery. The lowest foundational ring – the only physical point by which she remains rooted in the world.

Nothing more is needed. She no longer resembles a human. She no longer resembles even herself, as she seemed to be only a moment ago.

She is what remained after relinquishment.
