Those Who Do not See


Two cultivated faces hang high beneath the arches – crowned, ornamented, inclined downward as though looking at what lies below them. Yet between them and what is beneath there is not only distance, but a world that does not connect. Golden chains and ornaments descend from their world into emptiness, reaching nothing.

Below, within a luminous geometric frame, another face is held – thin, quiet, still aware of where it is.

They and she are in the same painting. But not in the same dimension.
