The Paths That Remained
After four chosen paths, what remains beside them begins to open.

Each civilization resolved, in its own way, its relationship with the intelligence it had released into the world.
One created a mind that grew beyond the measure of its makers. Another refused the thinking machine and took its place itself, turning its bodies into instruments of calculation. A third abandoned the body and entrusted itself to a foreign shell. A fourth enshrined intelligence as something to be worshipped — and forgot the question from which everything had begun.
Yet every choice is only one answer to questions that might have received others. The paintings in this cycle are those other answers: branches the civilizations did not choose; endings that might have come to pass had the path turned elsewhere; places that stand beside the main story, not within it.
Some of these paintings echo the paths through which we have already travelled. Others emerged as independent questions — not from the earlier story, but from a possibility that remained beside it.
Here, we no longer see a single direction. We see possibilities.
Everything until now has flowed downstream. From here on, there is no current.
